Course Description:
This webinar is designed to equip mental health professionals, including play therapists, with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively identify, understand, and respond to survivors of child sexual abuse (CSA) throughout the lifespan. Through an in-depth exploration of clinical approaches, ethical responsibilities, and intervention strategies, participants will learn to navigate the complexities of CSA cases. This seminar will incorporate evidence-based practices, case studies, and therapeutic techniques, including play therapy, to enhance professionals; ability to provide trauma-informed care to affected children, adolescents and adults.
Objectives:
1. Identify behavioral, emotional, and physical indicators of CSA in children.
2. Examine the short- and long-term psychological effects of CSA on development.
3. Clarify the distinct roles of therapists and play therapists in CSA intervention.
4. Explore the role of play therapy in assessing and treating people who have experienced CSA.
5. Apply trauma-sensitive approaches to support clients in therapy sessions.
6. Navigate mandated reporting laws, confidentiality issues, and ethical considerations when working with CSA cases.
7. Develop strategies to involve non-offending caregivers in the therapeutic process.
8. List personal emotional responses and implement self-care strategies to prevent burnout.
9. Enhance multi-disciplinary collaboration to coordinate with legal, medical, and child protective service professionals in CSA cases.
10. Develop culturally competent therapeutic approaches to meet the needs of diverse populations affected by CSA.
11. Develop techniques to respond appropriately to disclosures of child sexual abuse.
12. Recognize and mitigate the effects of vicarious trauma when working with CSA cases.

Dr. Shani Verschleiser, AuD, LCSW, is a trauma therapist, noted author, and speaker devoted to advancing family and child safety. Dr. Shani founded MagenU.org, through which she has educated tens of thousands of individuals on Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) prevention.
Dr. Shani Verschleiser is trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing (SE), EMDR, Breath Work, Brain Spotting and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP). Continuously pursuing knowledge in the field, Shani remains at the forefront of trauma-focused care and child protection, embodying a commitment to making a lasting impact on the well-being of individuals and families.
Vanessa Kellner, LCPC, NCC, RPT-S, CCPT is the owner of Wholesome Healing, a private practice specializing in Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT), located in Severna Park, MD. She is an author, play therapist and play therapy supervisor, credentialed as a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor (RPT-S) through APT, and certified as a Child-Centered Play Therapist (CCPT) through both the National Institute of Relationship Enhancement (NIRE) and the University of North Texas Center for Play Therapy (UNT).
Vanessa has over 10 years in the field of counseling. She has co-authored a book chapter on how supervisors can recognize and address compassion fatigue in play therapists. She is also a registered yoga teacher, bringing her expertise and experience in yoga, breathwork, and mindfulness to her clinical work.
She is passionate about her roles as a play therapist, supervisor, and practice owner, but most importantly in her role as a mom of 3.
