Description:
In this seminar, participants will delve into practical strategies and effective advocacy techniques designed to equip play therapists with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate complex child protection issues. Participants will learn how to recognize signs of abuse and neglect in play therapy sessions, engage in ethical reporting practices, and collaborate effectively with child protection agencies. Whether you're a seasoned play therapist or new to the field, this seminar offers a unique opportunity to navigate and explore the complexities associated with working with children using play therapy. As well as the opportunity to join in supporting other play therapists in our vital role as advocates for vulnerable children.
Objectives:
Gain a comprehensive understanding of the unique role that play therapists play in advocating for the safety and well-being of children within the context of child protection services.
Develop the skills necessary to recognize and appropriately respond to signs of abuse and neglect that may emerge during play therapy sessions, including understanding the nuances of trauma presentation in children.
Explore ethical considerations related to reporting suspected abuse or neglect, confidentiality, and maintaining professional boundaries in the context of child protection advocacy, fostering a deeper understanding of the ethical obligations inherent in advocating for child welfare as a play therapist.
About the Presenter:
Ashley Lawton is the Director at Integrative Counseling Services. She has several postgraduate certifications in working with children using Play Therapy and additional training in working with traumatized populations. Ashley has presented on various Play Therapy topics, often relating to grief and loss. She is a board member of Friends of Hospice in Oswego County. At Integrative Counseling Services, Ashley provides counseling to adolescents, young adults, and adults, as well as Play Therapy to children. When not working, Ashley enjoys spending time with her two children, being outdoors, and can often be found with a good book.

- Cancellations made 10 or more Business days before the scheduled workshop date are fully refundable minus a 5% transaction fee.
- Cancellations made less than 10 Business days before the workshop are eligible for a 50% refund.
- Less than 24-hour notice Cancellations, Same-day cancellations and no-shows are not eligible for a refund. Failure to attend the workshop for any reason does not automatically qualify for a refund.
